Born in New York state, 1819, moved to Ionia County (Mich.), 1846; moved to Alma Mich.), 1854; served with the 8th Mich. Inf., Co. C; rose to the rank of brigadier general; state senator, 1873, and Mich. Aud. Gen., 1873-1878. Ralph married May Eliza Halstead (1823-1905) on Sept. 22, 1842.
